Recent online discussions and social media posts have raised speculations that Microsoft is planning to create the next-generation Xbox hardware under the codename "Magnus." According to unverified sources circulating on platforms like Twitter X, Xbox has allegedly placed a large long-term order for up to 50 million custom AMD chips—to support two separate Xbox consoles at different price points, similar to the current Xbox Series X and Series S strategy.

Even though Microsoft has not officially confirmed the existence of any product named "Xbox Magnus", but many signs and reports point to this matter. Xbox President "Sarah Bond" has officially confirmed in late 2025 that Microsoft is working on next-generation hardware, including prototypes for both traditional consoles and potentially handheld devices.

Microsoft has also confirmed a long-term strategic partnership with AMD to co-engineer custom silicon for these future devices and focusing on AI-enhanced experiences as well. The company has repeatedly stated that it will focus on flexibility, accessibility, and deeper integration with Windows, Xbox Game Pass, and cloud services.

The Two Rumored Consoles

Xbox Magnus Hybrid Console:
The Magnus Hybrid Console is rumored to be a hybrid-style Xbox, blending traditional local hardware with stronger cloud-based functionality. This console would likely be digital-only, with no physical disc drive. It emphasizes Xbox Cloud Gaming, allowing demanding games to stream when local hardware limits are reached. It also targets players who want next-gen visuals at a lower upfront cost as it's rumoured to be sold for $599.

Xbox Magnus Regular Console:
It is rumored to be the full-power flagship, effectively the true successor to the Xbox Series X. If it's real. then it would likely provide the maximum performance with local processing only, it might support higher frame rates, ray tracing improvements, and AI-assisted upscaling. It would compete directly with Sony’s future PlayStation 6 hardware. The price for this product is to be rumoured at $799.

Signs Suggest Xbox Is Planning To Make "Magnus"

Even though "Magnus" itself is still unconfirmed, several real, documented indicators suggest that Microsoft is preparing for a new Xbox hardware generation. Microsoft has publicly confirmed that AMD will continue to supply custom Xbox silicon, just as it has since Xbox One. Leaked documents during the FTC case revealed that Microsoft internally discussed the next-gen Xbox timelines and next-generation hardware planning well before 2028.

Xbox Cloud Gaming has steadily expanded across browsers, smart TVs, and handhelds as well. This supports the idea of a hybrid console strategy. Spencer has repeatedly emphasized that Xbox hardware will continue, but evolve alongside Windows gaming, Game Pass, and cloud infrastructure.

Seeing all these reports and signs, we can agree on this that there is a great chance Microsoft will soon release new consoles in future with improved features to continue the journey of Xbox.
