Pokémon Champions has finally arrived today, April 8, 2026. Pokémon Champions provides a focused, battle-centric experience that strips away the overworld exploration to deliver a high-fidelity, competitive Pokémon Stadium successor. This game is now available on Nintendo Switch and the powerhouse Nintendo Switch 2. This game introduces the revolutionary "Omni Ring," which is a gameplay mechanic that allows Trainers to utilize Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, Dynamax, and Terastallization within a single unified meta.
This game features a curated launch roster of 186 Pokémon, including the debut of "New Era" Megas such as Mega Meganium, Mega Feraligatr, and Mega Emboar. As a free-to-start Pokémon game, it lowers the barrier to entry for the "VGC" while offering a Battle Pass system for exclusive cosmetics. Veterans can also immediately port their battle-hardened companions from Scarlet and Violet or Legends: Z-A into the new "Master Ball League" arenas.
Pokémon Champions was officially made from a collaboration between The Pokémon Company, Nintendo, and The Pokémon Works, which is a specialized joint venture between ILCA and Game Freak. This game was first teased during the 2025 Pokémon Presents. The budget details for making this game remain unannounced, but the game's development budget is rumored to be one of the highest for a non-mainline entry, specifically allocated to ensure server stability for global cross-platform play.

The game launched today at 3:00 AM UTC, with fans in North America gaining access late on April 7. While the Switch 2 version boasts a "Pro Mode" with 60 FPS and ray-traced lighting, the mobile port is currently slated for a Q4 2026 release to allow for further optimization of the touchscreen UI.
Data miners have also discovered that "Mega Meganium's" new ability, 'Mega Sol,' is currently dominating the ladder by enabling "Sun Teams" without the need for a weather setter. Furthermore, The Pokémon Company has confirmed that the "Indianapolis Regional Championships" (May 29-31) will be the first major event to transition away from "Scarlet and Violet," making today the official start of the Regulation M-A era.
